Comparisons between japanese and european societies
Both built on a system of hereditary classes eg. from Nobles down to Warriors down to Farmers/Serfs.
Both had constant warfare, which made warriors the most important class. Knights in Europe, Samurai in Japan.
Warriors were bound by a code of ethics eg. Knights by Chivalry, Samurai's by Bushido.
Both Knights and Samurai's rode horses during battles, both used swords and armor. European armor made Knights almost immobile whereas Japanese armor was more light weight and flexible but offered less protection.
Both societies built castles to protect themselves against attack. European castles were built of stone, but Japanese castles were made of wood, not stone.
Land ownership was different with Knights gaining land as payment for military service, and therefore this gave them control over the Farmers who worked the land. In contrast, Samurai's did not gain land ownership, they were paid a salary usually paid in rice.
